                            Philosophies & Training Methods

Kitchener Waterloo Cambridge & Guelph Dog Training
Norma Jeanne developed a touch-free dog training program using motivation to teach dogs to think for themselves.  Her philosophy is that dogs can be trained to learn to problem-solve and choose the desired behaviour in order to affect a pleasant outcome.  Some believe that our dogs should trust us to make their decisions for them but in reality you cannot watch your dog 24/7.

When a dog is trained to offer desired behaviour, it is more reliable when the owner/ dog trainer is not around.  Because ‘positive’ does not mean ‘permissive’, self-control is taught, and respect is mutual.  Although training treats are used as a temporary dog training tool to lure, motivate, and reinforce, they are faded with the use of a reinforcement schedule, and gradually replaced with other valued resources such as; walks, car rides, games, toys and attention.

This enables us to maintain a reliable response to cues, without the long-term need for food.  By making dog training fun and instilling trust, we can create a well trained dog with a resilient temperament.

The evolution of dog training has led us to this moment.  Choke chains and punishment are now a thing of the past as we train our dogs using state of the art, proven effective, positive reinforcement techniques.  Teaching your dogs to think for themselves eliminates stress and negativity from dog training.  The mental stimulation created by training our dogs to problem-solve produces dogs of higher intelligence and better temperament.

Puppy Power utilizes positive reinforcement dog training and behavior modification techniques, designed to create a good dog from puppy hood and effectively solve behavior problems, while maintaining the dog's trust and respect.
